Gardening Is My JAM

Welcome back!     As I write this blog post, the sun is shining down on my empty and wet garden bed. In the last 4 days, we have received roughly 2 inches of rain. I had planned to put my garden in this past weekend but, the rain has resulted in a very muddy garden space. The forecast for the next few days is calling for sunshine so I am hoping the sunny days that approach will dry my garden up. If this is the case, the garden will be put in this weekend! So while the rain poured down, I decided to do some planning and research for my garden space. For my planning, I used the Google Tool, Jamboard . So, here is my review:     I may be one of the only Education Students who has never used Jamboard. I have heard about Jamboard within classes and classroom experience but I have never created one. As I navigated around this new tool, I found a few pros and cons. Pros: - I enjoyed the fact that Jamboard had a Google Image extension. I am a HUGE visual learner and will often use photos or dr

Shopping For Seeds

With no progress happening this week in the garden due to the terrible weather we've been having, I decided to make my blog post today about where I purchased my seed for my garden this summer.       One of the hardest parts of my seed shopping for my 2022 Garden was: What do I want to plant? It's very easy to get overwhelmed when deciding what to plant in your garden. I often would "add to cart" online when ordering seeds and then suddenly notice my cart was WAY too full. My biggest tip to any future gardener is to start small and pick a few of your favorites. For flower seeds this year, I decided on sunflowers, sweet peas, and cosmos. For garden seeds, I had to narrow down what I wanted to plant by analyzing what fruits and veggies are most commonly eaten in our home. I decided on beets (Beetniks and Borscht are a staple in our home), strawberries, celery, peas, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes. I haven't quite decided if I will plant potatoes yet b

Rain Rain Go AWAY

Hi all!      As I stated in my Who is Miss Gordon?   blog post, I  currently reside on a farm outside of Canora, SK on Treaty 4 territory. In the last week, we have experienced quite a bit of rain. Unfortunately, our rain gauge is out of commission so I don't have an exact rain amount but believe me when I say, it's ALOT. With all this rain, my garden planting date has been pushed back yet again.     While I wait until my garden plot dries up, I have started researching how to create flower pots. To begin I started searching on Pinterest . I have really enjoyed using Pinterest thus far in my Learning Project journey because it has a creative demeanor. After searching for a while, I realized my favorite flower pot arrangements have a thriller , filler , and a spiller . If you aren't familiar with flower pot arrangements, this probably sounds like gibberish but let me explain. A thriller is a plant that has some pizzazz. Often thrillers are tall grasses or a climbing flower.

Big Move = Learning to Garden

For the last 3 summers, I have subscribed to a local florist's weekly flower subscription. The weekly drop off's were such an uplifting joy. This summer is a little bit different for me. This past March, my boyfriend and I made the move out to his family farm. There are so many pros to "farm life" but my favorite... the garden space!  I love flowers and I want to grow my own produce. Growing my own produce will be more cost-effective and allow for a stronger appreciation of the food we eat.   This is my first time ever having a garden.  I didn't have a garden space at my childhood home or in the extremely small suite we lived in prior to our move to the farm. I didn't have a garden space at my childhood home. I have never gardened any fruit or vegetable. I have gardened flowers in the past but on a WAY smaller scale than I will this summer. I have attached a photo below of the size of my future garden (and the gorgeous Saskatchewan skies).       I also hav

Who is Miss Gordon?

Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting my blog!        I was born and raised in Yorkton, SK, and currently reside on a farm outside of Canora, SK on Treaty 4 territory. I come from a family of teachers and have always had a passion for educating others. I have been an entrepreneur since the age of 15. I love to be in the kitchen cooking and baking up tasty treats. I spend more time than I would like to admit tending to my house plants and have recently taken up gardening. Throughout this blog, I look forward to sharing my journey of gardening through my EDTC 300 Learning Project.     During my Spring 2022 semester, I have the opportunity to take the course, EDTC 300 - Introduction to Educational Technology & Media . Throughout this course, I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge of educational technology. I have created a Twitter Account for this class, and I would love it if you'd check it out. I have linked my account profile here: https://twitter.com/missogordon. Techn
