With no progress happening this week in the garden due to the terrible weather we've been having, I decided to make my blog post today about where I purchased my seed for my garden this summer.
One of the hardest parts of my seed shopping for my 2022 Garden was: What do I want to plant? It's very easy to get overwhelmed when deciding what to plant in your garden. I often would "add to cart" online when ordering seeds and then suddenly notice my cart was WAY too full. My biggest tip to any future gardener is to start small and pick a few of your favorites. For flower seeds this year, I decided on sunflowers, sweet peas, and cosmos. For garden seeds, I had to narrow down what I wanted to plant by analyzing what fruits and veggies are most commonly eaten in our home. I decided on beets (Beetniks and Borscht are a staple in our home), strawberries, celery, peas, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes. I haven't quite decided if I will plant potatoes yet but we will see once everything gets planted. Below, I have shared my favorite places to purchase seeds.
I have collected different brands and some Saskatchewan local seed producers. As I have stated in some of my other blog pots, flowers are the way to my heart. One of my favorite Saskatchewan local Instagram blogs is @farmskgirl. I have linked their profile if you'd like to check it out, I highly recommend, https://www.instagram.com/farmgirlsk/. In addition to their Instagram, they have a great website where they sell stunning flower seeds. Here is their website: https://whistlingprairieflowers.com/collections/best-seller.
Another place I ordered seeds from was the "The Stress-Free Vegetable Seed Kit" from Chatham Gardens Seeds. If you click on the image below, I have linked the website to the image. I found this kit super affordable for 9 different packages of seeds (Cucumber, Tomato, Lettuce, Beet, Pea, Pepper, Bean, Carrot, and Zucchini). Although, I won't use them all it was still the best bang for my buck. As a first-time gardener, I also appreciated the fact this kit provided consumers with a brochure that gave insight and tips for best success!
Lastly, I have purchased some different seeds from stores within our community. Some of my favorites are Canadian Tire and Peavy Mart. I like the convenience of stopping by a store and grabbing what you need. I have never planted the seeds I have purchased from Canadian Tire and Peavy Mart but, from the conversations with my "green-thumbed" friends, they recommend it. For my raised garden beds, I plan to stop by one of these stores and grab my green onion, parsley, oregano, basil, and dill seed.
That's it for today! I hope you enjoyed my little review and tips on knowing what to grow!
