It began with a Google Search for Hannah Martin... nothing applicable
Then I tried Hannah Martin Regina, with the hope she was from Regina... nothing applicable
This is when I realized I was really going to have to put my Cybersleuth Hat on and get down to business. Next, I went to Twitter and found Hannah's account.
I was super interested in her tweets as I scrolled through. Both mine and Hannahs's interests seem to align greatly. First is our passion for #inclusiveedcution. As an Inclusive Education minor, I always feel a connection to people who have studied the same fields as I have. Next, Hannah shared in her Twitter bio that she is an animal lover. This was yet another interest we shared. Finding Hannah's Twitter was the easiest for me as we already followed one another. This was too easy, so I tried to dig a little deeper. Without going into too much detail, I was able to find that Hannah followed 10 of the same people I did on Instagram. This wasn't just public accounts we shared interests in, we actually know some of the people. The world is truly a small world. Even though Hannah's Instagram was a private account, I was able to view it quite easily. Thanks to Hannah for partnering with me on this activity! It was super fun!
As I did this assignment, I began to think back to the How One Tweet Can Ruin Your Life by Jon Ronson Ted Talk. In this video, he states, "The smartest way to survive is to go back to being voiceless". This quote got me right in the feels (as the kids say). It made me connect to one of my childhood peers. From the time I can remember, my peer wanted to be a lawyer. In recent years, she has begun her dream and entered law school. Within the last few months, she has gone completely incognito by deleting all her social media accounts. I have not had the opportunity to chat with her about this change but through conversations with my friends who are closer to her, they have shared that deleting social media is easier for her with her future career choice. Therefore, the quote "The smartest way to survive is to go back to being voiceless" by Jon Ronson is a fabulous comparison to the real-life connection I shared.
